I have been moving WVO around at a hundred and sometimes a thousand gallons at a time. I have needed a pump that gets the job done fast and reliably. Positive Displacement Pumps :

Diaphragm pumps, gear pumps, piston pumps, rotary vane pumps, flexible impeller pumps, and peristaltic pumps—they draw fluid on one stroke and discharge it on the next. In high- or varying-pressure applications or for pumping high-viscosity fluids, positive displacement pumps hold a constant flow rate much better than centrifugal pumps. Also, positive displacement pumps generally are self-priming —they create enough of a vacuum to draw fluid without assistance.

Centrifugal pumps are best for transfer applications with high flow rates and low pressure and viscosity. They typically are not self-priming and require a gravity-feed setup.

Almost all readily available pumps in the local hardware stores are centrifugal pumps, they only work when they have fluid in them and they do not work when WVO gets thick. The next available pump is the gear pump. These provide excellent priming capability and pumping pressure but tend to be quite small low volume high pressure items. Readily available high flow gear pumps( >20GPM) are $1000 and are nowhere near portable. So I had to take my search on-line. What I found was a 1hp, 20GPM gear pump with 1” hose fittings for under $500! I think I am going crazy hearing their racket over and over again. The miserable possums are slowly wrecking my house. Lately I have noticed several new holes in my roof. To see a number of wasps flying around was a great surprise for us. This has caused us much worry in the process. We are also at a lost where they came from. The very first thing we did when we have finally settled into our new place of residence, is to immediately call up Pest Control Adelaide. Oil spill response system technology catching up

The oil industry got a loud wakeup call from the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico 2010 and the drilling moratorium. While it has poured billions of dollars drilling for oil in ever-deeper waters, oil spill-response and cleanup technology has not advanced much in decades. The New York Times reports that underwater pipeline systems designed to contain deep water well ruptures can be developed with the first funding. Participating oil companies expect the system could be able to operate as deep as 10,000 feet and capture 100,000 barrels of oil a day.

Oil companies try deeds instead of words

The oil business consortium hopes the government will be persuaded to lift the six-month ban on deep water drilling soon following the oil spill response initiative. The Wall Street Journal reports that the system resembles the one developed by BP during three months of trial and error after the Deepwater Horizon exploded April 20 . The system, a non-profit venture called the Marine Well Containment Business, is expected to be ready within 18 months.

Oil spill containment threatened by weather

A procedure called a “static kill” could permanently seal the BP oil leak this weekend. CNN reports the static kill involves pumping mud to the well to force oil back to the reservoir below. Because pressure within the well is lower than expected, BP officials say the static kill could work where similar approaches have failed. Even so, BP continues to drill the permanent relief well that might be ready at the end of the month. The timing of the static kill is crucial because operations might be disrupted for up to two weeks by a tropical storm headed for the gulf.
